About The Show
Running May 18th to June 1st, 2019
Please join Eastline and this amazing cast for our upcoming production of “Antigone”.
As part of the “EastLine Gives” program, $1 of every adult ticket sold for Antigone will be donated to Long Island Against Trafficking, which creates awareness regarding human trafficking on Long Island.
Defiance is the hallmark of Sophocles’ greek tragedy “Antigone.” Brilliantly adapted in a new commission by David Bullen exclusively for Eastline Theatre, Antigone explores the conflict between individual action, free choice and fate. Though written around 441 BC, Antigone’s themes still resonate with modern audiences in their consideration of issues like civil disobedience, power, the rights of individuals vs. the state, and the expected roles of women in society. Heavily character driven and one of the most important tragedies ever written, the play and its series of events, which ultimately lead to total catastrophe, have universal ramifications and will captivate you in their telling.
“Antigone is an ancient Greek tragedy as contemporary parable.”
– Laura Collins-Hughes, The New York Times
“Antigone ushers us into a world of self-regarding power that falls apart through the conflicts of instinctive human feeling.”
– The Guardian
